Judge Elizabeth Scherer

Judge Elizabeth Scherer retired from the bench in June 2023, after serving more than 10 years as a Circuit Court Judge. Scherer was appointed to the Circuit Court bench in 2013 by Governor Rick Scott. She previously served as an Assistant State Attorney from 2001-2012, under Broward State Attorney Michael J. Satz. During her last six years as a prosecutor, Scherer was assigned to the Career Criminal Unit, handling cases of violent habitual offenders. She was first chair on more than 75 jury trials, including charges of murder, arson, carjacking, robbery, and home invasion. Throughout her career, she has handled more than 100 jury trials, including presiding over the high-profile Parkland Shooter case.
